In the wake of the debate over the promise to legalize and regularize the operations of commercial motorbike riders, the President of the Okada Riders Association Michael Kofi Owusu has revealed that the Nana Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a similar promise when they sought power in 2016.
Some leading appointees of the government and leading members of the NPP have taken the Flagbearer and Leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) former President John Dramani Mahama to task for promising to legalize the commercial use of motorbikes.
Even though the practice is currently outlawed, commercial motorbike operations are growing at a very fast rate across the country.

The NDC Flagbearer believes regularizing the operations of commercial motor riders would not only ensure it continues to serve as a massive source of employment for the youth, but also ensure they operate according within the motor traffic laws of the country.
This, announcement has been heavily criticized by the NPP who are of the opinion that encouraging the operations commercial motorbike riders would breed indiscipline the roads as well as lead to the loss of lives.
President of the Okada Riders Association Michael Kofi Owusu however told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive, the NPP promised to ensure they operate freely in interactions with them ahead of the 2020 elections.

According to him, the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP whiles in opposition promised to ensure the police do not impede their operations as well as make it easy for them to obtain licenses upon assuming government in 2017.
He said their situation has worsened since the NPP assumed power.
Michael Kofi Owusu indicated that they are unable to hold the NPP to this promise because it was not publicized hence would have no evidence to that effect.
