A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the most lawless president in Ghana’s history.

“Before I begin, permit me to state without any fear of contradiction that, Akufo-Addo is the most lawless president Ghana has ever had and do not believe in the rule of law. This act of his in recent times has found its way into our local government system,” he said.

He made this known when he met a cross-section of the media at his residence in Accra to address some pertinent issues in the country.

According to the NPP stalwart, the violence that has characterized the elections of the Metropolitan, Municipal, District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country, go to prove his claim that the president is lawless.

He, therefore, made reference to the part of the country’s laws that establishes the appointment of chief executives of the various assemblies and how they should be confirmed.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the media, the District, Municipal and Metropolitan concept, as we all know was established a year after the first Democratic Election in the 4th Republic to help decentralize activities of government into our localities for proper and drastic development.

“Chapter 20, article 243 of the 1992 constitution states; there shall be a District Chief Executive of the various local Assemblies and they shall be voted upon and approved by 2/3 of assembly members present,” he said.

He further reiterated the need for Assembly Members in the various assemblies to be allowed to exercise their democratic rights in the election of MMDCEs.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the media, these people per our constitution must at all time be allowed to vote for or against any government appointee who is nominated by the president without any interference or oppression or compulsion but by their own conviction.

“This is a sole right given to assembly members for which for which no one shall influence in any shape or form i.e. by threat, intimidation, assault or pressure that will interfere with the exercise of such right,” he added.
