A Peace Building and Conflict resolution professional Emmanuel Bombande has described President Akufo-Addo’s “I am unaware of intimidation” statement as paralyzing and troubling.
Speaking at the Kumasi Central Mosque last week, President Akufo-Addo stated “One thing that excites me most is that the registration exercise in Ashanti region and other areas has been very peaceful. I haven’t heard of any person being denied the opportunity to register on grounds that you are not this or what so go, we can’t register you every person has the right to go and register. What I have heard is that the exercise is going on smoothly in Asawase and Asokore-Mampong. We thank God for that. That is the most important thing to us all to leave in unity and peace.”
President Akufo-Addo made these comments in the face of videos showing some potential registrants being prevented from registering by some members of the various security services.
Emmanuel Bombande said the President should know better because he is constantly briefed on the security situation in the country.
He told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive, the President as the Commander In Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces should be aware of the activities of military men during the registration exercise.
The activities of military men have come under scrutiny due to videos of some soldiers determining who is Ghanaian enough to register in Banda and Ketu South constituencies.
Emmanuel Bombande says the actions of these soldiers are dangerous and says the President should take ultimate responsibilities and ensure the right things are done.
