NDC National Women’s Organiser hopeful, Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah Seyram, has congratulated former Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, on her election as the National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Hon. Betty Krosbi, a former colleague of Hawa Koomson in Parliament, wished the newly elected women’s organiser wisdom, strength and success as she takes on the responsibility of leading the women’s wing of the NPP.
However, she has expressed strong reservations about the suggestion that women organisers should be provided with pepper spray as a means of responding to political violence.
While acknowledging concerns about the safety of women who participate actively in politics, Hon. Betty Krosbi said the response to political violence should be rooted in peace, responsible leadership and empowerment rather than measures that could be perceived as promoting confrontation.
“As women leaders, I believe our message must fundamentally be one of peace, unity, stability and responsible leadership,” she said.
She argued that women organisers should instead be equipped with leadership skills, knowledge, economic opportunities, resources and training to enable them to participate meaningfully in national development.
Hon. Betty Krosbi further called for political differences not to prevent women across the political divide from working together to promote the welfare, safety and advancement of Ghanaian women.
“We may belong to different political traditions, but we can work towards a Ghana where women are confident, protected, respected and empowered to lead,” she said.
She congratulated Hon. Hawa Koomson once again and expressed the hope that, despite their political differences, they could continue to engage constructively in the broader interest of Ghanaian women.
Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah Seyram is contesting to become the NDC National Women’s Organiser and says her campaign is anchored on peace, unity, inclusion, opportunity, empowerment and strong women’s leadership.
