John Boadu has completed a major political comeback in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), winning the National Chairmanship with 2,888 votes at the party’s 2026 National Delegates Congress at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The former NPP General Secretary secured 48.5% of the votes cast, overcoming three other contenders to take charge of the party as it reorganises following its defeat in the 2024 general election.
His closest challenger, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, finished with 2,408 votes, while former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko obtained 790 votes. Former First Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe received 41 votes.
The victory marks a significant return to the frontline of the NPP for Boadu, who previously served as General Secretary but lost his bid for re-election in 2022.
The congress also retained Justin Kodua Frimpong as General Secretary. He secured 4,486 votes, the highest tally recorded by any candidate in the 2026 national executive elections.
His nearest challenger, Sylvester Tetteh, polled 1,340 votes, followed by Eugene Boakye Antwi with 162 and Dr Charles Dwamena with 129.
In the vice-chairmanship contest, Kojo Fosu Boadu emerged First Vice Chairman with 3,116 votes, while Henry Nana Boakye secured the Second Vice Chairman position with 3,061 votes. Nana Akomea, who polled 2,987 votes, became Third Vice Chairman.
The Electoral Commission-declared results further showed Mustapha Abdul Hameed receiving 2,956 votes in the vice-chairmanship race. Yaa Amponsah Frimpong obtained 1,503 votes and Richard Ahiagba secured 1,001 votes among the 13 candidates who contested the vice-chairmanship positions.
For the other national executive positions, Alfred Kwadwo Thompson was elected National Treasurer with 2,243 votes, while Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover won the National Organiser position after securing 2,964 votes.
Mavis Hawa Yakubu was elected National Women’s Organiser with 783 votes, with Abanga Yakubu Fuseini taking the National Youth Organiser position with 1,550 votes.
The Nasara Organiser position went to Mohammed Ali Suraj, who secured 372 votes, while Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye was elected unopposed as National Communications Director.
The outcome gives the NPP a new national leadership team, with Boadu returning to the party’s top hierarchy to lead its organisation and rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general election.
