A lawyer and a kingmaker, Chris Akumey have warned Anlo state in the Volta Region could face a full-blown chieftaincy crisis without the immediate help of Gnana’s security agencies.
According to the lawyer, a group of people from the laofe clan of Anlo is planning to install a new chief to be known as a ‘’Dutor’’ which means an overlord or founder of the Anlo state.
Chris Akumey at a press conference in Accra told journalists the planned coronation if not stopped could create a rivalry between the loafewo family and the Awomefia of Anlo state, His royal majesty Torbui Sri III who is the president of the Anlo traditional council.
The Anlo traditional Council has in a letter declared the purported activity as null and void and has successively informed the Anlo Security Council ( DISEC) about the looming tension in the midst of speculations that the coronation may go ahead despite being unlawful.
Amid fears that the planned enstoolment scheduled for August 13 could fuel violent clashes, Chris Akumey is appealing to the Ghana Police Service and other state security agencies to intervene.
‘’There is trouble blowing in Anlo land which must be stopped by the security apparatus at both districts, regional and national level so that we don’t have a situation where the matter is out of hand’’.
He continued ‘’on 13th August 2022 there is a planned coronation of a claimed Torbiga Wenya on a stool that is unknown to the people of Anloga and I can tell you as it has happened in the past, there will be a resistance if the said coronation goes on without the intervention of the national security’’.
‘’The people of Anlo will not allow this revisionist agenda to create a parallel power, havoc, and disruption in the chieftaincy of Anlo land’’.
‘’So I am pleading on the powers that be not to act in a way to fuel the perception that there are unseen powerful hands behind what those who want to bring trouble to the Anlo land are doing’’, Chris Akumey told radio gold Coffie Emmanuel.
Reports indicate that the Laofe clan has decided to hold the said coronation of Torbiga Wenya III and Mamaga Abui Buikpor II at the Hogbe Park.
Already, giant billboards have been erected to announce the said event.
