Markets, Lorry parks and other public places in the Kumasi Metropolis have been thoroughly disinfected in an excercise meant to curb the spread of the Corona Virus outbreak.
It forms part of the phase two of the ongoing nationwide disinfection excercise which was launched in Accra on Sunday.
It is been organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with waste management experts Zoomlion Ghana Company Limited.
Shops in Asafo, Kejetia, the Kumasi Central Market, etc were closed making the excercise proceed smoothly.
The usual bustle and hustle associated with the the Metropolis was absent as traders and shop owners kept complied with directives from the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
Over 330 markets benefited from the excercise including Asafo Market, Kejetia Market, Bantama Market, the Offinso Market, the Kwabre East Market, among several others.
Some Lorry Parks including the Asafo Neoplan, Dr. Mensah and Abinkyi also benefited from the excercise.
By 7am, spraying guns have moved into action with the police and military providing security.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah and other officials from the RCC and Zoomlion Ghana Limited observed the excercise.
In an address to launch the excercise, Mr. Osei Mensah tasked Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) in the Ashanti Region to give the disinfection excercise all the seriousness it deserves, urging them to peroidically disinfect thier areas of jurisduction.
He called on traders in theregion to bare with authorities as government continue to find means to stem the covid-19 outbreak.
