Five agricultural colleges in Ghana have received advanced digital farming equipment as part of a government-backed initiative to strengthen practical training in precision agriculture and data-driven farming.
The equipment, which includes drones, soil-testing devices and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, was handed over at the Kwadaso Agricultural College under a partnership involving the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku, who led the handover ceremony, said the intervention is intended to equip agricultural students and instructors with modern technological skills required to improve productivity and support the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The beneficiary institutions are Kwadaso Agricultural College, Wenchi Agricultural College, Ejura Agricultural College, Damongo Agricultural College and Ohawu Agricultural College.

According to the Minister, the equipment will enable the colleges to integrate precision farming technologies and data-based decision-making into agricultural training.
The initiative is expected to expose students to technologies increasingly used to collect farm data, assess soil conditions and support more informed agricultural production decisions.

Mr Opoku said incorporating such technologies into the curriculum would better prepare agricultural graduates for a sector that is becoming increasingly dependent on technology and data.
“By integrating precision farming and data-driven decision-making into their curriculum, we are ensuring our students and instructors have the modern skills needed to build a more productive, technology-led agricultural sector,” he said.

The intervention also represents an effort to strengthen the connection between agricultural education and modern farming practices, with the beneficiary colleges expected to use the equipment for practical teaching and training.
The Agriculture Minister said the partnership with WFP and KOICA forms part of efforts to develop the human capacity required to drive a more productive and technology-led agricultural sector in Ghana.
