The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the commencement of training for the first batch of newly selected recruits, marking a significant step in its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp in Accra, the GAF confirmed that a total of 2,000 recruits have been selected as the first group out of four planned batches.
According to the statement, the selected candidates are expected to report to their respective regional selection centres across all 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. to receive their appointment letters and prospectus ahead of training.
The Armed Forces disclosed that the first batch includes 18 individuals who sustained injuries during the El-Wak Stadium stampede, as well as five others sponsored by families of victims who lost their lives in the incident.
“The selected personnel who have been invited are to report at their various selection centres across the 16 regions of the country for their appointment letters and prospectus,” the statement said.
The GAF further encouraged applicants who were deferred at the medical stage due to curable conditions to seek appropriate medical treatment, assuring them of a future opportunity for reassessment at no cost.
It also urged remaining applicants to remain calm, noting that the selection process is ongoing for the remaining batches.
The Armed Forces expressed confidence in the quality of applicants, highlighting that many candidates performed exceptionally well in the aptitude tests and would be considered for future recruitment exercises.
The statement also commended all 16 Regional Administrations for their support, which enabled the decentralisation of the recruitment process in line with government policy.
“The Armed Forces is pleased to indicate that it has a pool of young applicants who scored high marks during the aptitude test and will therefore make selection from the pool for subsequent recruitment exercises beyond this year,” the release noted.
Additionally, the GAF indicated that a directive to facilitate recruitment for individuals from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region who assisted in rescue efforts during last year’s helicopter crash—is being considered for inclusion in the second batch.
The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations.
