The Government of Ghana has deported three Israeli nationals who arrived in Accra earlier today, December 10, 2025, in direct response to what authorities describe as the ill-treatment and unjustified deportation of three Ghanaians by Israeli officials.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, explaining that Ghana had no choice but to take reciprocal action after its citizens were unfairly targeted and humiliated.

“Following the ill-treatment and unjustified deportation of three Ghanaian nationals by Israeli authorities, the Government of Ghana has been compelled to retaliate by deporting three (3) Israelis who arrived in Ghana earlier today.

Government fumes at Israel over ‘inhumane’ treatment of Ghanaian travellers

“The Chargé d’ Affaires ad Interim of the Embassy of the State of Israel was promptly summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, considering that the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana is currently out of the jurisdiction. Both Governments have agreed to resolve the matter amicably.

“The Government of Ghana will continue to safeguard the dignity of its nationals and also that of other nationals. Ghana deeply values our relations with all friendly countries and expects our citizens to be treated with dignity and respect in much the same way as other governments expect Ghana to treat their nationals,” the statement read.

This action follows days of diplomatic tension sparked by incidents at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, where several Ghanaian travellers were allegedly singled out for harsh treatment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier condemned the conduct of Israeli authorities, stating that Ghanaian passengers had been subjected to distressing and discriminatory procedures since Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Seven Ghanaians were detained without valid cause, including four Members of Parliament who were en route to Tel Aviv for the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference.

They were held for more than five hours before being released following strong diplomatic intervention, while the remaining three travellers were forced onto a flight back to Accra.

Despite the sharp exchange and Ghana’s firm response today, both governments have since held discussions and agreed to resolve the matter peacefully.

Ghana maintains that while it values its long-standing relations with Israel, the dignity of its nationals is non-negotiable, and any unjust treatment will be met with appropriate action.
