President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Majority Leader and the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament to withdraw the Private Member’s Bill seeking to repeal the Act establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The move follows the President’s public reaffirmation of his commitment to strengthening the anti-corruption mandate of the OSP during an engagement with the National Peace Council on Wednesday.
According to the Presidency, the withdrawal is consistent with President Mahama’s position that the Office of the Special Prosecutor remains a “vital cog in the fight against corruption.”
“President Mahama has been clear and unequivocal in his support for the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He believes that rather than dismantling it, we must strengthen it to deliver on its mandate,” a statement from the Presidency noted.
The President further urged the OSP to intensify its efforts to restore public trust, reiterating the need for visible, impartial, and results-oriented action.
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor must do more to boost public confidence in its work and frontally tackle corruption in line with the objectives informing its establishment,” he emphasized.
The statement was issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, who also serves as Minister for Government Communications.
