The Ghana Hajj Board on Tuesday held a comprehensive media training session to prepare journalists for coverage of Hajj 2026, led by its Communications Director, Alhaji Mohammed Amin Lamtey.
Delivering the training, Amin Lamtey emphasized the critical role of journalism in Hajj operations, noting its importance for effective communication and strategic public relations. The session covered core journalism principles, ethical standards, media law, and practical guidance on reporting from Saudi Arabia, including verification and source authentication.
The training also addressed recent guidance from the Saudi Minister of Media regarding journalists’ responsibilities and restrictions during Hajj, including rules on recording and photographing. Lamtey confirmed that participants are now aligned with these guidelines to ensure compliant and responsible reporting.
The event drew a strong turnout, including journalists from Kumasi and other regions, and was attended by members of the Ghana Hajj Board. Amin Lamtey praised the high calibre and attentiveness of participants and acknowledged the support of his communications team, specifically naming Faisal and Baba for their contributions to organizing the session.
While this year’s media team and visa processes are already finalized, Amin Lamtey indicated plans to review and reposition the Board’s media roadmap for next year to expand and strengthen Ghanaian media representation in future Hajj coverage.
The Ghana Hajj Board called on media practitioners to adhere to ethical reporting standards, verify information rigorously, and prioritize sensitivity when reporting on pilgrimage-related incidents.
Participants were later presented with certificates
As of early April 2026, over 90% of visas for Ghanaian pilgrims had been reported ready, with initial flights anticipated to begin departing from Tamale International Airport by the end of April 2026.
