“We are still waiting for the police to act.”
Those are the words of a frustrated resident of Okpoi Gono who lives in fear that his house might next to be pulled down by persons who are laying claim to their land and that of adjoining communities in the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Already some walls built around yet to be developed lands have been pulled down with excavators leaving the owners to count their losses.
Ahead of the destruction of their walls and structures, these claimants wrote on these walls inscriptions that suggested that they had a court order that gave them possession of the lands in question.
The victims of these demolitions are still yet to see this court order despite several demands on the new claimants to the land.
“We asked to see the court order but they have not shown it to us yet they were accompanied on these exercises by soldiers who are supposed to be working according to law,” a resident stated.
Residents tell radiogoldlive.com that they have made several reports to the police ever since the threat started.
They say the Manet Police have watched on us they continue to suffer demolitions.
“The best they have told us is that they have received several reports and are planning to arrange a meeting with the so-called claimants,” a resident stated.
Meanwhile, the residents live in fear as they do not know when the next demolition would occur and which of them would lose his or her property as a result.
