The Dzorwulu Special School was filled with joy, music, laughter, and gratitude on Thursday as Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, donated assorted items to the school as part of activities marking her 60th birthday celebration.

The donation, which was personally presented by the birthday celebrant with support from her friends and family, included bags of rice, packs of bottled water, toiletries, drinks and biscuits, toys, and assorted food items, as well as a large birthday cake shared with the children.

Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo and her entourage also personally distributed packs of food to the children, creating moments of warmth and connection.
Addressing the pupils, teachers, and caregivers, Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said the celebration was about love, gratitude, and inclusion, explaining that she had chosen to spend the milestone with the children because they mattered deeply to society.

“We love you all. I’ve come here several times, and I’m here with all my friends and my family to say that this is a special day,” she said, adding that “Today is a day of celebration, a day of joy, and a day to say thank you to God.”
She further assured the children that they were not forgotten, stressing that the Government of Ghana cared deeply about them and would continue to support institutions that cater for children with special needs.

Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo disclosed that her actual birthday falls on Saturday, when she intends to return to the school with more friends and family to party, dance, pray, and spend time with the children, reinforcing her commitment beyond a single-day visit.
The Dzorwulu Special School is one of Ghana’s key institutions providing care, education, and structured support for children with special needs, including autism. Over the years, the school has relied heavily on partnerships, donations, and advocacy to meet the growing needs of its pupils and ease the burden on families.

The gesture goes beyond a birthday celebration, reflecting Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo’s long-standing advocacy for social protection, inclusion, and the dignity of vulnerable groups, a cause she championed during her tenure as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Teachers and caregivers at the school expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that such support helps improve the wellbeing of the children while drawing public attention to the challenges faced by special needs institutions across the country.

As music played and children danced alongside guests, the event ended on a note of hope, a sign that inclusion, compassion, and shared responsibility remain critical to building a society where every child is seen, valued, and supported.
