Bayern Munich kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a resounding 3-1 victory over FIFA Club World Cup champions Chelsea at the iconic Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
Harry Kane was the hero of the night, netting a brace to lead Bayern’s charge. The England captain’s precision and prowess were on full display, cementing his reputation as a big-game player. Trevoh Chalobah had given Bayern an early lead with an own goal, before Cole Palmer pulled Chelsea level with a swift counter-attack strike.
Bayern’s dominance ultimately told, with Kane’s second goal sealing the win. The victory marks a strong start for Bayern in the Champions League, showcasing their intent and strength.
Enzo Maresca had this to say on the performance of his boys; ” I’m extremely disappointed with the result tonight. We gave away too much possession and didn’t capitalize on our chances. Bayern were clinical in their attacking moments, and we paid the price”.
Manuel Neuer also reached a milestone, becoming Bayern’s oldest Champions League player with his 100th win.
