Popular Political commentator and social media personality Kevin Taylor has filed an application at the Supreme Court challenging an arrest warrant issued against him in January 2020.
The warrant was issued by Court of Appeal Judge Justice Eric Kyei Baffour who at the time sat as an additional High Court Judge.
Justice Kyei Baffour in the said warrant issued on 16 January 2020 ordered for Kevin Taylor to be arrested and produced before his court to answer for what the judge described as a “scandalous video” he found to be contemptuous.
Peter Okudzeto who is Lawyer for Kevin Taylor in the certiorari application filed challenging the warrant argued that the said warrant was issued contrary to Mr. Taylor’s right to be given a fair hearing.
Mr Taylor’s lawyer argued that the failure to accord him the right to a fair hearing was a breach of the rule of natural justice.
It was further argued in the application that Justice Kyei Baffour’s warrant for the “apprehension of the body of” Kevin Taylor was not made in accordance with any procedure sanctioned by law.
Mr. Taylor’s lawyer was also of the opinion that the arrest warrant was an error of law as the court had made no previous order for their client to appear to show cause and he failed to comply.
