The Landlady who is said to be evicting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from its Kumasi Office has said that Benard Antwi Boasiako known popularly as Chairman Wontumi lied about the ownership of the house.
According to her, her husband willed the building to her and she has absolute power over who she rents out the property to.
She claims she is not aware of any form of rent agreement with her son and therefore wants the NPP out of the building because they have not only failed to pay for their rent but also failed to maintain the building.
But the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Wontumi insists he has no arrangement with the woman who claims to be a landlady.
He said “If you rent someone’s property and you are unable to pay, is that how the landlord should even treat you? Is that what the laws of Ghana say? The house does not belong to that woman in question.
Before we came there they were owing ECG and Water bills for five years so they pleaded with us so I paid for the Electricity bill and paid for the water bill before I made Agya Osei renovate the place. So the one who gave us the house is not the woman who came and said she was evicting us. The owner of the building gave it to his children and not the woman. The one who gave us the building is called Daniel Owusu and so Agya Owusu came yesterday and apologised to us that what happened was unfortunate”.
Meanwhile, the NPP in the Ashanti Region has indicated that they will bring the issue to rest with a meeting between both parties.
Kwasi Kyei who speaks for the NPP in the Ashanti Region says Lawyers of both parties that signed the tenancy agreement will meet and ensure that the issues are settled amicably.
