President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for the construction of a fully equipped regional hospital for the Oti Region, vowing to close what he described as a “glaring and unacceptable gap” in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
Speaking during his final “Thank You Tour” engagement in Dambai, the President emphasized that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right for every Ghanaian.
“Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. Yet, the Oti Region remains one of the few without a regional hospital. I find this unacceptable,” President Mahama said.
He revealed that his government is actively working with the Ghana Health Service and development partners to deliver the project, which will serve as the region’s primary specialist and emergency care centre.
“This facility will provide specialist and emergency care, relieving the pressure on hospitals in Ho and Tamale,” the President assured.
The hospital will form part of the government’s broader Universal Primary Healthcare Programme, which also includes the construction of modern health centres and community clinics across all districts in the Oti Region to improve healthcare coverage, quality, and outcomes.
Mahama stressed that bridging healthcare gaps in underserved regions is central to his government’s development vision, noting that improved health services will drive economic and social progress.
“Every Ghanaian, no matter where they live, deserves timely and quality medical care,” he added.
The announcement was met with cheers from local residents, many of whom have long advocated for a regional hospital to reduce travel burdens for critical medical care.
