President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut sod on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for the construction of a Multi-Tiered, Multi-Purpose Carpark and Airport Hotels Complex in Accra.
The project is expected to significantly transform the airport area by providing an integrated facility combining parking, hospitality, shopping, entertainment and aviation-related leisure activities.
The centerpiece of the development will be a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking bays, designed to address parking and related infrastructure needs around the airport.
The complex will also feature two hotels, providing additional accommodation facilities for travellers, visitors and other users of the airport.
A key component of the project will be a pedestrian connector linking the complex to the airport terminal, providing convenient and safer movement for passengers between the facilities.
The development will further include a shopping mall with a food court, creating space for retail businesses, restaurants and other commercial activities.
For entertainment and leisure, the complex will feature a sky lounge, while an aircraft-viewing sky observatory will offer visitors an opportunity to watch aircraft movements from an elevated vantage point.
The project is therefore expected to create a modern, multi-purpose destination that combines transportation infrastructure with hospitality, commerce and entertainment.
Speaking ahead of the sod-cutting ceremony, the project has been described as an important addition to the infrastructure surrounding Accra’s international aviation hub.
“The project will provide more than just parking. It is designed as a multi-purpose complex that brings together hospitality, retail, entertainment and convenient access to the airport terminal.”
The seven-storey parking facility, with over 2,000 bays, is expected to ease pressure on available parking spaces while improving the overall experience for airport users.
The inclusion of hotels and commercial facilities is also expected to strengthen the airport area as a destination for business, tourism and leisure.
“The pedestrian connector, hotels, shopping mall, food court, sky lounge and aircraft-viewing observatory are all intended to create a modern and integrated airport experience.”
The sod-cutting ceremony by President Mahama on Thursday will formally mark the commencement of the project and is expected to bring together government officials, stakeholders in the aviation and hospitality sectors, traditional leaders and other invited guests.
When completed, the complex is expected to become a major landmark within the airport enclave and contribute to the government’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure, tourism and commercial development in Accra.
