The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has commenced activities to mark its 20th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to expanding financial inclusion, supporting micro and small enterprises and contributing to Ghana’s economic transformation.
Speaking at the official launch of the anniversary celebration at the MASLOC Head Office in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Abigail Akwambea Elorm Mensah, said the milestone was an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s contribution to financial inclusion while renewing its commitment to supporting entrepreneurs across the country.
She said the anniversary, being celebrated under the theme “20 Years of Financial Inclusion and Enterprise Development:
Partnering to Reset
Ghana’s Economy,” was more than a commemoration, describing it as a period of reflection, recognition and renewed commitment to MASLOC’s mandate.
> “As we mark 20 years of service, we do so with gratitude for how far we have come and renewed determination for the work that lies ahead,” Madam Mensah said.
According to her, MASLOC was established with a clear mandate to advance financial inclusion, support micro and small enterprises and create economic opportunities for Ghanaians who might otherwise be excluded from formal financial services.
She said the institution had, over the years, provided financial support and productive opportunities to women, young people, vulnerable groups, associations and small-scale enterprises across the country.
Impact on Beneficiaries
The MASLOC CEO said the true measure of the institution’s work could be found in the lives and businesses of its beneficiaries.
“The MASLOC story is therefore not only the story of an institution. It is the story of the market woman who has expanded her trading business, the farmer who has increased production, the artisan who has acquired the tools to improve his or her craft, and the young entrepreneur who has transformed an idea into a sustainable source of income,” she stated.
She explained that through MASLOC’s interventions, beneficiaries had been able to establish and expand businesses, create employment, support their families and improve their livelihoods.
“These are the real outcomes of financial inclusion and enterprise development,” she added.
Partnership to Reset Ghana’s Economy
Madam Mensah said Ghana’s economic reset required a collective effort involving government, the private sector, financial institutions, development partners, traditional authorities, civil society organisations and citizens.
She stressed that the country needed an environment where businesses could grow, jobs could be created and hardworking Ghanaians would have fair opportunities to contribute to national development.
“Ghana’s economic reset will require the collective commitment of governments, the private sector, financial institutions, development partners, traditional authorities, civil societies and citizens,” she said.
She assured that MASLOC was ready to play its part in that national effort by continuing to provide support to viable micro and small enterprises.
Focus on Micro Enterprises
The CEO placed particular emphasis on MASLOC’s responsibility towards the smallest businesses, noting that micro-enterprises remained an important component of its mandate.
“I want to emphasise the micro. We are supposed to support micro and small enterprises,” she stressed.
She said as MASLOC entered the next chapter of its development, the institution would have to improve its systems, strengthen accountability and embrace innovation to ensure that assistance reached those who needed it most.
“We must continue to improve our systems, strengthen accountability, embrace innovation, and ensure that the support we provide reaches those who need it most,” she said.
Anniversary Activities
The 20th anniversary celebration, scheduled for September 8 to 20, 2026, will feature a range of activities aimed at bringing together MASLOC management, staff, beneficiaries, partners and the general public.
The CEO said the activities would reflect the diversity and spirit of the MASLOC family, while also providing an opportunity to recognise the contributions of staff and stakeholders and express gratitude to God for the institution’s journey.
She encouraged staff, partners, beneficiaries and members of the public to participate actively in the anniversary activities.
“Let us use this celebration not only to honour the past, but also to build stronger partnerships and renew our collective commitment to financial inclusion, enterprise development and national progress,” Madam Mensah said.
Appreciation to Stakeholders
Madam Mensah expressed appreciation to the MASLOC Governing Board, past and present board members, management and staff for their contribution to the institution’s development over the past two decades.
She also thanked partners, stakeholders and beneficiaries across Ghana for their trust and support.
As the anniversary celebrations officially commence, she called for a renewed commitment to the institution’s mandate and to the broader national development agenda.
“Let us recommit ourselves to empowering enterprise, expanding financial inclusion, and partnering to reset Ghana’s economy in line with the vision of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama,” she said.
