Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his victory in the December 7 elections. The Chief Imam, accompanied by a delegation of Muslim leaders and chiefs, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Mahama in Accra to commend him on his return to the Jubilee House.
During the visit, Sheikh Sharubutu offered his blessings and well wishes for the President-elect as he prepares to lead the nation once again.

Addressing the delegation, Mr. Mahama assured Ghanaians of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing the responsible use of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Parliamentary Majority.
“We will not misuse the majority we have in Parliament. We will always consult the Minority on national issues,” he affirmed.
The President-elect also acknowledged the Chief Imam’s consistent support throughout his political journey, whether in victory or defeat, dating back to 2009 when he became Vice President.
Implementation of the Muslims Manifesto
Mr. Mahama revealed plans to establish a committee dedicated to implementing the points outlined in the “Muslims Manifesto” contained in the NDC’s broader policy document. This initiative, he noted, is part of the party’s commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of Ghana’s Muslim community.
The President-elect reiterated his pledge to investigate instances of electoral violence, particularly the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident and deaths resulting from the 2020 and 2024 elections.
“We will investigate these incidents thoroughly, provide appropriate compensation to the victims, and ensure the culprits face justice. No one should feel emboldened to commit such acts in the future,” Mr. Mahama stressed.
Mr. Mahama urged the youth to channel their energy into constructive efforts to rebuild the nation, discouraging acts of violence, vandalism, or looting.
“Let us focus on helping to move our country forward rather than resorting to anger and destructive actions,” he appealed.
The President-elect also highlighted the role of the Presidential Transition Team, which has been inaugurated to ensure a smooth transfer of power. He expressed gratitude for the peaceful election process and attributed its success to divine grace.
The visit by Sheikh Sharubutu underscores his role as a unifying figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape, fostering dialogue and peace across different spheres of the nation.
