The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has donated GHS 50,000 to the “Jira Yagbonwura Education Fund” to support education in the Savannah Region. The donation was made during a courtesy call to the palace of the Yagbonwura, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area and President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs.
Asiedu Nketiah, affectionately known as “General Mosquito,” expressed his respect for the traditional institution and recognized the Yagbonwura’s role in promoting peace and development in the region. He emphasized that the donation is an investment in the future of the youth, stating that “education is the greatest equalizer, and supporting initiatives that provide opportunities for our children is a responsibility we must all take seriously.”
The Yagbonwura expressed appreciation for the gesture, noting that the funds will be managed transparently to support students in need. He assured that the traditional council will ensure the funds reach the intended beneficiaries, supporting the education of deserving students in the region.
The donation is part of Asiedu Nketiah’s “Thank You” tour, aimed at consolidating the NDC’s support base and listening to grassroots concerns ahead of the upcoming general elections. The tour has taken him to various constituencies in the Savannah Region, engaging with traditional authorities, party faithful, and community leaders.
The NDC Chairman’s donation highlights his commitment to supporting human capital development in the Northern and Savannah sectors of the country. This initiative is expected to make a significant impact on the education sector in the region, providing opportunities for students to pursue their academic ambitions.
