The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has begun settling outstanding claims owed to healthcare providers this follows a threat by the Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) to suspend services to Scheme.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 5, 2025, the NHIA acknowledged the concerns raised by the association over delayed reimbursements and assured the public that swift action is being taken to address the issue.
“Disbursement of payments for outstanding claims began on Friday, April 4, following the completion of all required modalities,” the Authority stated. “The NHIA is in the process of effecting more payments that should clear all outstanding vetted claims and reflect in provider accounts in the coming days.”
The NHIA reaffirmed its commitment to building and maintaining strong partnerships with all healthcare providers while safeguarding the long-term viability of the healthcare scheme.
The Authority also appealed to PHFAoG to reconsider any plans that could disrupt access to healthcare for NHIS cardholders especially those who rely heavily on private facilities for medical services.
“We value the vital role played by private health facilities and remain open to constructive engagement to resolve these matters amicably,” the statement added.
The NHIA also called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to advance the nation’s universal health coverage agenda.
The Authority assured the public that, it is fully committed to building a transparent, responsive and sustainable healthcare system for all .
