Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, has warned that Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Interior and Defence Committee, will be arrested if he does not accept an invitation from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to conduct an investigation into claims of suspicious flights in Ghana.
Kwakye Ofosu refuted Fordjour’s assertion that he was never invited during an appearance on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Friday, April 4.
According to the minister, the invitation came through Ntim Fordjour’s leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who at first agreed to make it possible for him to appear but later argued that Fordjour had not spoken as an individual but rather as a member of the Defence and Intelligence Committee.
However, the NIB has formally asked Fordjour to avail himself to assist the investigation.
“If he says he was not invited, it is not true. The NIB has written to the Speaker and asked for his release for investigation. He will definitely go. If he doesn’t, they will arrest him, and when he does, he should present the stories he is telling,” a report by citinewsroom.com quoted him as saying.
Additionally, he chastised Fordjour for making unsupported allegations about two planes that were reportedly bringing cash and drugs into the nation.
“The last thing an MP should be doing is peddling such childish lies. They are not just lies; they are childish. How do you claim such things without providing a shred of evidence?” he said.
The minister further accused Fordjour of engaging in propaganda using Parliament as a tool.
“He is engaging in childish propaganda. Lies that do not make any sense. If there was any evidence, he would have presented it before anyone invited him.”
