Gabby Otchere-Darko has said that the Akufo-Addo administration’s decision to seek a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not mean that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win political power in the 2024 General Elections.
The move, for him, will rather free Government to focus on things that will impact the economy positively in the coming 15 months.
“If John Mahama and the NDC feel NPP going to the IMF now is what will deliver NDC win in 2024 then they better think again. It rather takes the pressure off this Govt to focus on things that will impact positively on the economy over the next 15 months,” he said on social media.
The decision of the Government to seek an IMF bailout has been met with surprise by many who thought the option was not part of the considerations of the Government after it repeatedly said that going to the IMF was not part of its plans.
Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) cited mismanagement of the economy as the cause of the need for a bailout while Government insists it is a result of the impact of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine Crisis.
Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has indicated that it is the right move but has suggested that the President sacks the Finance Minister for his incompetence.
He believes that there should also be a reconstituted economic management team who will come up with new ideas to better the fortune of the country.
