Parliament has approved the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, paving the way for the establishment of a dedicated authority to oversee and coordinate the implementation of the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy.
The Bill, sponsored by Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, was laid before the House in late 2025 and progressed through second reading, committee consideration, and debate stages amid sharp divisions between the Majority and Minority sides.
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has lauded the passage of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, describing the legislative achievement as a transformative milestone for Ghana’s industrial and financial future.
Speaking to the press shortly after the House approved the bill, Mr. Ayariga noted that the development represents the fulfillment of a cornerstone campaign promise made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He characterized the bill as a strategic engine designed to modernize the nation’s economic structure and enhance its global competitiveness.
”This is a proud moment for our country,” Ayariga stated. “The passage of this bill paves the way for the expedited implementation of the 24-hour economy policy, a move that will stimulate unprecedented economic growth and facilitate large-scale job creation.”
The Majority Leader emphasized that the policy is central to a broader vision of restructuring the Ghanaian economy to make it a premier destination for both domestic and foreign direct investment. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to its policy agenda, framing the bill as tangible evidence of the administration’s reliability.
”We promise and we deliver,” Ayariga remarked. “This is not just a policy; it is a decisive step toward the comprehensive transformation of Ghana’s economic landscape.”
The bill will now be transmitted to the President for executive assent. Once signed into law, it will formally establish the 24-Hour Economy Authority, a dedicated body tasked with the regulation, oversight, and strategic execution of the 24-hour cycle across various sectors.
The news has been met with widespread optimism among stakeholders and supporters, who view the establishment of the Authority as a “game-changer” capable of optimizing productivity and revitalizing the labor market.
