President John Dramani Mahama was today received with a ceremonial welcome by Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as part of his official visit to Singapore.
The two leaders later held a closed-door meeting to discuss bilateral cooperation and opportunities for strengthening ties.
President Mahama expressed his appreciation for the invitation, describing it as both timely and significant for Ghana.
“I am grateful for this kind invitation from President Tharman. This visit is timely and very important for Ghana as we continue our journey of economic reset and national transformation,” he said.
Congratulating Singapore on the celebration of its 60th anniversary of independence, President Mahama reminded his counterpart that Ghana would mark its 70th anniversary in 2027.
The Ghanaian leader reflected on the historical bond between the two nations, noting that Ghana had long viewed Singapore as an inspiration.
“Even from the days of our first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana and Singapore have shared values and ties. Today, Ghana continues to see Singapore as a role model in its journey to create prosperity for its people,” President Mahama remarked.
Outlining Ghana’s economic outlook, he pointed to recent progress in stabilisation.
“We are stabilising the economy, inflation is currently down to about 13 percent, and we are targeting a single digit by the end of the year. My government is prioritising expenditure and ensuring fiscal discipline to sustain these gains,” he explained.
On job creation, President Mahama underscored agribusiness as a central pillar of Ghana’s Reset Agenda.
“Agribusiness offers space for employment and growth, and it is an area we are focusing on under the Reset Agenda. Along the Volta Economic Corridor, we have over two million hectares of land earmarked for agro-processing parks, irrigation, and value-added projects. This will be another game changer under our Resetting Ghana vision and the 24-hour economy programme,” he stated.
The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation, with discussions also touching on trade, innovation, and sustainable development.
