President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to bridging the divide between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Alliance of Sahel States.
This statement comes as part of his ongoing “Good Neighbourliness Tour” to neighboring countries Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, which have recently exited ECOWAS.
During his visit to Mali, President Mahama engaged in high-level discussions with Transitional President General Assimi Goïta, focusing on strengthening regional cooperation, security, and economic ties.
He also emphasized the need for stronger defense and trade bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Mali in the fight against terrorism.
This diplomatic effort underscores Ghana’s dedication to fostering dialogue and maintaining constructive relations with its neighbors, despite the shifting geopolitical landscape in West Africa.
By bridging the divide between ECOWAS and the Alliance of Sahel States, Ghana aims to promote regional stability and cooperation.
