President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana from Luanda, Angola, where he participated in the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
The summit brought together African leaders to deliberate on strengthening the continent’s peace and security architecture, conflict prevention and resolution, and sustainable financing for African-led peace support operations.
During his participation, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening an effective, adequately resourced and African-owned peace and security architecture.
He also highlighted Ghana’s leadership in advancing the global reparatory justice agenda and invited fellow African leaders to participate in a planned side event at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in September, where an update will be provided on the work of the mechanisms established following Ghana’s Next Steps Conference on reparatory justice.
The President was accompanied to the summit by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Director of the Chief of Staff for Operations, and the Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) Countries, Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (Rtd.).
President Mahama has since returned to Ghana following the successful conclusion of the high-level continental engagements in Luanda.
