President John Dramani Mahama has articulated a broad national strategy centered on attracting investment, cultivating a skilled local workforce, and significantly enhancing the quality of life for Ghana’s middle class, following a major expansion of Ghana’s industrial and leisure infrastructure, anchored by the Greenhouse Group’s significant commitment, has been warmly welcomed by the government
President Mahama delivered message of assurance to the international business community, proclaiming that Ghana is fundamentally open for business again. He affirmed his government’s commitment to implementing key reforms aimed at establishing Ghana as Africa’s most attractive investment destination. To solidify this pledge, he confirmed an upcoming visit to China this month to personally brief President Xi Jinping on the success of existing Chinese investments and to personally solicit further inflows.
Crucially, the President guaranteed a stable and predictable operating environment for investors, including policy stability, streamlined foreign exchange transactions, and guaranteed profit repatriation.
He also highlighted the strategic alignment of the investment with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The park’s export-oriented business model will allow resident enterprises to manufacture goods in Ghana and effortlessly distribute them across the entire African continent and beyond.
A Pipeline for Professional Skills and Employment
Addressing the national priority of youth employment, the President showcased the park’s commitment to developing human capital. The initiative includes a one-month intensive training program tailored specifically for young Ghanaians, particularly graduates from the Free Senior High School (SHS) program who do not immediately pursue higher education.
”Here, they acquire international-standard skills for factory work, equipping them to thrive both locally and abroad,” President Mahama noted. He asserted that this approach is vital for building a disciplined, highly skilled labour force capable of supporting a modern industrialised Ghana.
Transforming Ghana into a Regional Tourism Hub
Beyond the economic and industrial focus, the President detailed the immense social and tourism value of the new US$300 million amusement park. This facility is designed to address a critical social need, providing adequate leisure options for the country’s growing middle class.
”Most middle-class families have nowhere to go and relax with their children. This amusement park will fill that gap,” he explained.
The expansive facility will feature a variety of attractions, including exciting water slides, a golf park, diverse rides, and a world-class hotel with an integrated convention center. This blend of world-class recreation and business infrastructure is intended to strategically position Ghana as a major regional hub for both leisure and business tourism.
The Bright International Legacy
The core of this vision is the Bright International Industrial Park, an expansive 1,200-acre development situated within Tema’s New City Free Zone. Commissioned in 2019, the park already successfully hosts a diverse range of companies, including Bright Cement Ghana, Bright Recycling, China Fujian Fishing Ghana, and AfriMall. Its activities currently span industrial manufacturing, agriculture (rice cultivation and aquaculture), retail, food processing, electronics, and appliance manufacturing.
By seamlessly integrating industry, agriculture, commerce, and now leisure, the park continues its vital role in driving import substitution, creating employment, and accelerating national economic diversification.
Speaking at the event, The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, praised the development highlighting the immense scale of the foreign direct investment secured by the nation.
She revealed that the Greenhouse Group has already injected nearly US$700 million into Ghana since 2011, successfully hosting 67 enterprises and generating over 10,000 direct jobs. Furthermore, the investment is key to empowering local youth by equipping them with crucial technical and professional skills.
The Minister announced the Group’s next substantial phase, a US$300 million amusement park. This vast project is designed to be a comprehensive hub for leisure, cultural engagement, and business, featuring amenities that will include a state-of-the-art water park, a resort hotel, and an international conference centre.
The ceremony drew an impressive assembly of dignitaries, underscoring the project’s national importance. Key attendees included Nene Afedi Katamanso Yilagbeye, Paramount Chief of Doryumu, Tang Hong, President of the Chinese Association and Ghana-China Chamber of Commerce, Xu Ning Quang, CEO of Sentuo Oil Refinery; and Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism and Creative Arts.
