The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professionals Forum in USA and Canada has extolled 2024 Running Mate of the NDC Professor Nana Jane Opoku Agyeman as a visionary and woman possessing high moral values.
Leader and Flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama announced his decision run with Prof Opoku Agyemang to contest for the Presidency in 2024.
John Dramani Mahama in 2020 became the first Flagbearer of one of the two major political parties to have a woman on its Presidential ticket when he selected Prof Jane Opoku Agyeman as his Running mate.
NDC Pro-Forum US said Prof Opoku Agyeman was perfect running mate to John Mahama who would not serve as a ‘mate’ but a ‘co-pilot’ to transform the Republic.
“With the wisdom, tact, passion, humane, integrity and experience Prof Naana possesses, one is certain of greater achievements under the NDC,” the Pro-Forum stated.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the group in response to the announcement of Prof Opoku-Agyeman as running mate to John Mahama for the 2024 elections
The NDC Pro-Forum US also described Prof. Opoku-Agyeman as a leader who has shown “unflinching commitment to youth and women empowerment”.
Prof Opoku Agyeman has utilized every opportunity to highlight the need for a focus on catering to and advocating for the needs of youth and women.
Youth and women form majority of the population with growing calls for an increasing focus on education, jobs and an inclusive economy that caters to the needs of these groups.
According to NDC Pro-Forum US the 2024 NDC Running Mate has shown a commitment to this course through her contribution to reforming the education sector during her time as Minister of Education.
The NDC Pro-Forum US said Prof. Opoku-Agyeman was a ‘distinguished Ghanaian educator, scholar, and public servant’ whose career exemplifies ‘a deep commitment to education, scholarship and public service’.
“Through some policies she championed as Minister of Education like the promotion of aggressive STEM education in SHS schools, digital education for basic and JHS schools, research and a academia quality among tertiary institutions and institutions of higher learning, the educational sector saw ‘significant changes which positioned the educational sector to high pedestal among Africa and the world,” the Pro-Forum claimed.
The NDC Pro-Forum US referred to the prominent leadership Prof Opoku Agyeman played in the John Mahama administration’s program to address ‘infrastructure deficit in schools’ by constructing new schools like the Community Day Schools (E- Blocks), renovating existing facilities and provision of essential amenities.
The group further stated that the 2024 NDC Running mate’s time at the Education ministry witnessed educational reforms including ones to enhance early childhood education, strengthen basic education, and expand vocational and technical training opportunities.
The NDC Pro-Forum US also said Prof Opoku Agyeman as Education minister prioritized professional development of educators by involving initiatives to enhance teacher training programs, providing ongoing support and mentoring for educators and incentivizing excellence.
