The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has urged the Electoral Commission to be transparent and fair in its dealings with all political parties to ensure peaceful elections.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said this when she paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and elders of Dadieso in the Suaman Constituency as part of her campaign tour of the Western North Region.
She said Ghana is known for its peace and stability, adding the Electoral Commission is duty-bound to be fair and transparent in all its dealings with political parties and other stakeholders to maintain the peace in the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said traditional rulers and opinions leaders owe a duty to protect and defend the peace in the country by speaking up and calling the Electoral Commission to order when it conducts itself in ways that undermine the integrity of the upcoming elections and threaten the peace and stability of Ghana.
“We only have one Ghana and I will urge our traditional leaders to speak against any action of the Electoral Commission that seeks to undermine the credibility of the December 7 general elections”, she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the chiefs and people of Aowin Constituency to rally behind the NDC presidential candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, by voting for him in the December elections.
She said this will enable Mr Mahama to reset the country, implement the Big Push and the 24-Hour Economy policies to create jobs and establish a Women’s Development Bank to financially empower women.
For his part, the Kyidomhene of Suaman Traditional Council, Nana Manah Kwabena III, commended the NDC for promoting development in the Suaman area, adding the party has justified why Ghanaians should vote for its candidates in the impending general elections.
