The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has referred Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities for investigation over alleged contempt of parliament.
This follows a formal complaint lodged by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, alleging Afenyo-Markin attended an ECOWAS Parliament session in Nigeria despite being excluded from Ghana’s delegation.
The complaint, brought under Orders 30 and 31 of the Standing Orders, claims Afenyo-Markin’s actions undermine parliament’s authority and dignity.
The Speaker has directed the committee to examine the facts, review actions taken, and determine if Afenyo-Markin’s conduct constitutes contempt or breach of privilege.
