Stonebwoy has won the highly coveted ‘Artiste of the Year’ award at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), which took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center. Despite facing tough competition from fellow nominees Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, and Sarkodie, Stonebwoy’s outstanding contributions to music earned him the top honor.
In addition to being named ‘Artiste of the Year,’ Stonebwoy also took home five other awards, including Best International Collaboration, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, Album/EP of the Year, and Best Dancehall Artiste. Surrounded by his loved ones, Stonebwoy expressed his gratitude upon receiving the award.
The TGMA, held in March 2024, featured a wide range of categories, such as Artiste of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artiste. The Ghana Music Academy Board, made up of professionals from various sectors of the music industry, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, and engineers, ensured a diverse and well-rounded judging panel.
The nominees for the prestigious “Artiste of the Year” award included Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy. The Best New Artiste category featured talented up-and-coming musicians such as Banzy Banero, DSL, King Paluta, Maya Blu, Olive the Boy, and Oseikrom Sikani.
Last year’s TGMA saw Black Sherif winning Artiste of the Year along with three other awards, while Camidoh secured Afrobeats Song of the Year and Best Collaboration. King Promise won Album of the Year for “5 Star,” Sarkodie was named Hiplife Artiste of the Year, and Piesie Esther won both Gospel Song of the Year and Gospel Artiste of the Year.
