In the quest to ensure fairness in justice administration in the country, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the next NDC government will make the law to work again for all Ghanaians.
According to her, there appears to be discrimination in the application of the law under the present government, saying the situation would be reversed for all Ghanaians to feel adequately protected by the law.
Addressing a town hall meeting with traders, artisans and informal sector workers at Takoradi in the Western region as part of her campaign tour of the region on Monday, Prof Opoku-Agyemang said the perception of unfairness is dangerously causing Ghanaians to lose trust in the law enforcement and justice administration system.
“We condemn, arrest or imprison someone for an offence, but treat differently another person who commits the same or similar offence.
“The law is for all of us, and it must be applied equally,” she stressed, adding that it is only when law enforcement and justice administration works fairly that the citizenry would feel very safe.
The Running Mate, who responded to various concerns raised by the participants, noted that the NDC’s manifesto has catered for all sectors of the country.
“Everyone has been catered for in the manifesto because we are coming to serve you and enhance your welfare,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang explained that “we have catered for quality education for your children, the growth of your businesses through infrastructure development and provision of soft loans, and the provision of pension schemes to protect your welfare in retirement.”
She assured them that the NDC government would fulfil all its promises, as its track record demonstrates.
“You all know that when we promise, we deliver,” she said, and therefore called for their support to win the December polls.
