The Vice President of the Republic, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has extended her support to the people of Cape Coast ahead of this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye with the donation of assorted food items and an undisclosed amount of money.

The donation, made on her behalf by her Policy Advisor on Political Affairs, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was presented to the Oguaamanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, at a brief but colourful ceremony on Friday.

According to Dr. Ofosu Ampofo, the gesture reflects the Vice President’s deep respect for the traditions of Oguaa and her continuous commitment to the well-being and development of its people. He further conveyed Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s warm regards to the chiefs and people, explaining that although she would have loved to join the celebrations in person, pressing engagements outside the country had prevented her attendance.

The Oguaamanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, expressed profound appreciation to the Vice President for the support. He lauded her thoughtfulness and prayed for divine blessings upon her and the government. He, however, reiterated his resolve to always speak truth to power, stressing that while he would commend positive initiatives, he would equally not hesitate to raise concerns should government policies take a wrong direction.

The Oguaa Fetu Afahye is one of Ghana’s most vibrant traditional festivals, celebrated annually in September by the people of Cape Coast. It brings together indigenes, tourists, and dignitaries to showcase rich customs, cultural pageantry, music, and dance, while also serving as a platform for unity and development.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s donation is expected to go a long way in supporting the smooth organization of the 2025 festival and in strengthening the preservation of cultural heritage in the ancient city.
