The Assin Fosu Police say they do not know why they arrested a Dompem based elderly Cocoa farmer.
The police told Assin Central Constituency executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), they were ordered to arrest the elderly man.
Constituency Communications Officer of the NDC in Assin Central Eric Obeng revealed this to Ransford Kwesi Boakye on the Gold Power Drive.
Eric Obeng said the police told them they would now investigate the matter.
The NDC Constituency Spokesperson however suspects the arrest has to do with a viral video on social media and said fingers are pointing in the direction of the MP for the area Kennedy Agyapong.
The elderly man who identified himself as Baffour was arrested after a video went viral on Social media.
Baffour was captured in the video with a yellow container on his head standing close to a heap, which he said was fertilizer that has been allowed to rot.
According to him, he came to fetch some of the spoiled fertilizer to apply to his cocoa crops.
He told the person who recorded the video, authorities dumped the fertilizer after the cocoa farmers refused to buy them.
The Nana Akufo-Addo led government upon resuming office ditched John Dramani Mahama’s free feritiser and input policy for a cost-sharing one.
Baffour and one other farmer said they are rejecting the fertilizers being sold by COCOBOD forcing officials of the state entity to dump the fertilizer.
The other farmer said there were similar dumps of rotten fertilizer in other parts of town.
Constituency Communications Officer of the NDC in Assin Central Eric Obeng said they were able to convince the police to release the elderly man.
He said when Baffour told them he did not know the reason for his arrest.
Eric Obeng said Baffour is a BP patient whose health seemed to have deteriorated after the arrest because of his apprehension.
He said such arrests were commonplace in the constituency and are usually ordered by their Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyepong
