Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) Mensah Thompson has confirmed to Ransford Kwesi Boakye on the Gold Power Drive that Civil Society groups rejected a proposal for consultations from government over the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal.
According to him, the CSOs did not see the need for consultations that will lead to naught since government was bent on pushing through the agreement.
He said the CSOs have indicated to government that the only condition on which they will meet government is if they suspended the arrangement.
Mensah Thompson said the consultations would be meaningless to the CSOs if the government continues on the path towards implementing the arrangement.
Government called for the consultations after the CSOs embarked on media campaign demanding for the suspension of the arrangement for consultations.
A member of the Coalition of CSOs ASEPA said the civil society organizations would not compromise their position by holding consultations on arrangement with which they disagree.
Mensah Thompson who heads ASEPA wondered the motive for such a consultation when government is not ready to make any concessions.
He said the CSOs are insistent on their conviction that the deal was not in the interest of Ghana.
