The National Women Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Hannah Bissiw is surprised at claims by the Ghana Police Service that it was investigating brutalities meted to its agents during the voter registration exercise.
The Ghana Police Service issued a statement assuring it was looking into the incidents after the NDC accused the service of inaction and called on its members to defend themselves when attacked.
Hannah Bissiw said the claim of “investigating” by the Police was surprising because all these brutalities happened in front of their officers.
She told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive police officers in most cases watched on whiles these brutalities were committed without lifting a finger to help the victims.
The NDC Women Organizer said in some cases the police were responsible for the brutalities.
Hannah Bissiw wondered how the NDC would be asked to “have faith in those helping to brutalize us.”
She called on the police to withdraw their officers from the registration centers if they are incapable of doing the basic duties of protecting Ghanaian citizens from thugs or arresting those thugs when they engage such brutalities.
