The Young Progressive Network (YPN), in collaboration with the Assembly Member Aspirant for the Mallam East Electoral Area in the 2023 Assembly elections, Mr. Shadrak Nii Amartei Armah, on Sunday morning embarked on a street sweeping exercise to clear dust and debris along the stretch from Julikart to Mallam Station.
The exercise was carried out under the auspices of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Felix Odartey Lamptey, as part of efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and community responsibility within the municipality.
Speaking after the exercise, Patrick Asford Boadu, Convener of the Young Progressive Network, described the activity as successful and impactful.
“The exercise has been very fruitful. Beyond cleaning the streets, it has helped to mobilise the youth and create awareness about the importance of keeping our environment clean,” he said.
Mr. Asford Boadu noted that dust accumulation along major streets poses health risks to residents and commuters, adding that the initiative was aimed at supporting the Assembly’s sanitation efforts while encouraging community ownership of public spaces.
The Assembly Member Aspirant, Shadrak Nii Amartei Armah, commended the volunteers for their dedication and stressed the need for sustained community-led sanitation activities.
Residents and passers-by expressed appreciation for the initiative, calling for such exercises to be organised regularly to improve sanitation and public health in the Mallam East Electoral Area.
