Veteran Broadcaster Omansomfo Nana Yaw Kwakye was on Saturday 25 February 2023 laid to rest at a in his hometown at Agona Kwaman in the central region.
Hundreds of mourners including family members, friends and colleagues from Network Broadcasting (owners of Radio Gold and Montie FM) turned up and paid their last respect to the ace broadcaster.
Omansomfo Nana Yaw Kwakye was the Tufuhene of Agona Kwaman thus was given a royal send off.
The heavy Network Broadcasting entourage led by its Chief Executive Officer James Agyenim Boateng included seasoned media personalities such as Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari (Koo Fori) Bertrand Bannerman Menson (BB Menson The Virus), Henry Kojo Agbai, Mohammed Alhassan among other.
Omansomfo passed on in 2022 at the age of 72 while on admission at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital.
He left behind three children, Georgina, Akua Ntowaa and Kwame Adu.
Omansomfo Nana Yaw Kwakye made a name for himself as an influential voice on Radio Gold’s Gold Power Drive (now known as the Gold Morning Conversation) show.
He was the first host of the Newspaper Review segment of the show and had the additional task of translating English interviews into twi.
Omansomfo Nana Yaw Kwakye’s unique style has greatly influenced modern day breakfast shows on twi speaking Radio stations in the country especially the capital of Accra.
After over a decade on Radio Gold, Omansomfo Nana Yaw Kwakye spent the remainder of his broadcasting career as the host of the Breakfast show on Radio Gold’s sister station Montie FM.
