The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) have told the public that there will be problems with electricity for the next three weeks. This is because there is less gas coming from Nigeria to Ghana.
The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) said that the gas supply is lower because a gas supplier in Nigeria is doing some maintenance work. They think this work will take about three weeks to finish.
Because of this maintenance, Ghana is not able to make as much electricity as usual. This means that for the next three weeks, there might be times when the power has to be turned off in some places to manage the amount of electricity being used.
Even though this is happening, GRIDCo and ECG want everyone to know that they are working hard with other people in the power industry to make the best use of the resources they have. They are trying to make sure that the problems caused by the lower gas supply will affect people as little as possible.
The two companies shared this information in a statement. They explained that since Wednesday, June 12, 2024, some parts of the country have already had their power cut off because there is less gas coming from Nigeria.
It’s important to remember that this situation is expected to last for about three weeks, which is how long the maintenance work in Nigeria is supposed to take. During this time, GRIDCo and ECG will keep working to control the power supply and reduce the impact on consumers.
