Some constituents of Tarkwa Nsuaem in the Western Region have accused their Member of Parliament, George Mireku Duker, of being complicit in illegal mining activities (galamsey), leading to the destruction of their water bodies.

The community members voiced their concerns during a campaign visit by NDC running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

The residents claimed that the MP has watched on unconcerned as the activities of galamsey operators have severely affected their access to clean water due to pollution of their water bodies.

“Our rivers and streams are polluted,” a market woman lamented.

They also decried the deplorable state of their roads, lack of job opportunities for youths, and overall neglect of the area.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang received a warm welcome in Tarkwa Nsuaem, Ahanta West, and Mporhor constituencies on day one of her Western Region campaign tour.

Residents in all three constituencies expressed their desire for change, citing similar concerns.

They vowed to vote against the incumbent MP, George Mireku Duker, in the upcoming December 7 elections.

Throughout her speeches, Professor Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the NDC’s commitment to addressing the issues raised by the residents.

She spoke about the NDC’s flagship programs, including the 24-hour economy policy and the Women’s Development Bank initiative, which aim to bring about the needed change.
