The Vice presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Opoku Agyemang has begun a 4-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing Muslim Women in the Ashanti Region, the NDC running mate criticized a decision of the NPP to cancel a program initiated by the NDC to send Muslim Women to Cuba for medical training.
She said the program was launched in 2012 under the administration of former president John Evans Atta Mills.
The initiative, designed to enhance women’s healthcare in underprivileged communities by training doctors in gynaecology was seen as a crucial step toward addressing gender disparities in healthcare.
“NDC sent Muslim virls who are doctors to Cuba to specialize in gynaecology, this one also, do you need to cancel it”? She questioned.
Professor Opoku Agyemang also condemned the NPP government’s hike in Hajj fares from the initial GHC 35,000 to about GHC 75,000 which she says has prevented lots of Muslims from embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
She said the NDC remains firmly committed to empowering women and ensuring that every Ghanaian, regardless of their background, has access to quality healthcare and opportunities.
Prof. Opoku Agyemang reinforced the NDC’s pledge to build a government that does not discriminate, promising policies aimed at providing a better quality of life for all Ghanaians.
As part of her Ashanti Region tour, Professor Opoku Agyemang is expected to visit several constituencies to engage with professional groups, artisans, market women, members, supporters, and well-wishers of NDC at separate meetings.
She is also expected to make a compelling case that a vote for Mr. John Mahama is a vote for the development, Jobs, and financial empowerment of women.
