President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday participated in the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in the Republic of Sierra Leone, marking the climax of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Statutory Meetings.
The high-level summit brought together Heads of State and Government from across West Africa to review the state of the Community and deliberate on strategies aimed at deepening regional integration, strengthening peace and security, promoting democratic governance, and enhancing economic cooperation among member states.
Ahead of the official opening of the summit, President Mahama joined his fellow West African leaders in a ceremonial tree-planting exercise, underscoring the region’s shared commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The Ghanaian leader also participated in the commissioning of the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre at Lungi, Sierra Leone, the state-of-the-art facility serving as the venue for the 69th ECOWAS Summit.
The summit is expected to consider key policy decisions on regional security, economic development, governance, trade, and the implementation of initiatives designed to foster greater unity and prosperity across the ECOWAS sub-region.
President Mahama’s participation reaffirms Ghana’s longstanding commitment to the ideals of ECOWAS and its continued support for collaborative efforts to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in West Africa.
