The Minister of Foreign Affairs Designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa believes President John Mahama should be commended for establishing Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), an initiative aimed at safeguarding state assets and combating corruption.
Samuel Okidzeto Ablakwa who chaired ORAL, in response to a question told the Appointments Committee that the initiative was not only aimed at recovering misappropriated assets but has also succeeded in preserving 20 state bungalows from being taken over by private interests.
He disclosed that the committee received approximately 700 petitions from the public concerning various instances of corruption and misappropriation.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa assured that the committee was reviewing the petitions and preparing a report to be submitted to President Mahama in the coming days.
Recently, the ORAL team embarked on a fact-finding tour to inspect “captured” state assets and gather evidence to substantiate the claims laid out in the petitions.
The team’s findings were alarming, revealing instances of vandalism, corruption, and the transfer of public assets into private hands.
At the Agric Mechanization Center at Cantonments, the team found that over 3,000 workers from the Ministry of Agriculture had been evicted to accommodate private development.
In East Cantonment, ten state bungalows occupied by CSIR staff had been sold to private developers, with eviction letters issued to the staff.
According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the success of ORAL in preserving state assets and combating corruption demonstrates President John Mahama government’s commitment to make a significant impact in the country’s fight against corruption.
