President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that unity, though difficult, remains the best path to achieving shared prosperity and regional stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for development and growth.
President Mahama made this statement during his keynote address at the official launch of the ECOWAS 50th Anniversary celebration in Accra.
According to President Mahama, since assuming office, he has prioritized diplomatic re-engagement with Ghana’s Sahelian neighbors.
“Ghana has appointed a special envoy to initiate high-level conversations with the Alliance of Sahel States,” he emphasized.
Additionally, President Mahama noted that he has personally led missions to foster trust, rebuild communication channels, and affirm the sub-region’s shared aspirations and beliefs.
These efforts, he reiterated, affirm that the sub-region has a shared destiny.
“We need to engage to foster lasting solutions to the challenges in the sub-region for socio-economic development,” he added.
