The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, under the leadership of Honourable Armah Kofi Buah, has initiated decisive reforms to restore integrity and professionalism at the Forestry Commission. These reforms are in line with President Mahama’s vision to curb illegal mining and restore Ghana’s forests.
However, recent developments suggest a coordinated attempt to sabotage these efforts. Intelligence reveals that some individuals who were recruited and fast-tracked under the previous NPP government continue to occupy strategic positions and actively resist government policy.

A notable case involves Madam Roseline, controversially appointed by the late Sir John, who was recently reassigned to Kumasi as part of the Commission’s restructuring. Her transfer has been met with internal resistance led by the CEO, Dr. Hugh Brown, who is lobbying influential individuals, including religious leaders, to persuade the President to overturn the Minister’s directive.
This interference undermines not only the Minister’s authority but also the President’s forest and climate policy agenda. The Forestry Commission, entrusted with safeguarding our forests, cannot continue to be run by individuals loyal to a political tradition that seeks this government’s failure.
I urge H.E. the President to take swift action and ensure that the Minister of Lands directives are complied with. Ghana cannot afford to lose the fight against illegal mining due to internal betrayal.
