Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, arrived in Accra on Wednesday for a historic State Visit to Ghana, marking the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over three decades.
In a rare diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Modi was personally received at Kotoka International Airport by the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama. He was accorded a full ceremonial welcome, including a guard of honour and cultural performances, underscoring the strong and longstanding ties between the two nations.
“This is not just a visit, it is a renewal of the deep friendship between our two countries,” President Mahama said during the brief airport ceremony.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to further deepen the bilateral partnership between India and Ghana, particularly in areas of trade, investment, technology transfer, and cultural cooperation.
The visit also highlights India’s broader strategy of strengthening ties with African nations and its commitment to the Global South.
Officials say the visit will feature high-level talks, business engagements, and the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting economic cooperation.
Modi is also expected to meet with Ghanaian business leaders, address the India-Ghana Business Forum, and visit historical sites that symbolize Ghana’s independence and Pan-African legacy.
The Indian Prime Minister’s visit is seen as a diplomatic milestone and a reflection of mutual respect and shared aspirations for sustainable development and global collaboration.
