The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an upward adjustment in electricity and water tariffs for the third quarter of 2026, citing changes in key economic and operational indicators affecting utility service providers.
Under the new tariff review, electricity tariffs will increase by 3.49 per cent, while water tariffs will rise by 0.85 per cent, effective July 1, 2026.
According to the Commission, the quarterly adjustments are intended to maintain the real value of tariffs and ensure the financial viability of utility providers while enabling them to continue delivering reliable services to consumers.
PURC explained that the review was influenced by movements in the Ghana cedi-dollar exchange rate, inflation, natural gas prices, and the electricity generation mix. The Commission noted that although inflation and natural gas prices recorded declines during the review period, a slight depreciation of the Ghana cedi contributed to the adjustments.
The Commission emphasized that the quarterly tariff reviews are carried out in accordance with its regulatory mandate to reflect prevailing economic conditions and operational realities within the utility sector.
PURC further assured consumers that it will continue to monitor the performance of regulated service providers and hold them accountable to established standards to ensure value for money and improved service delivery.
The latest adjustment means consumers will pay slightly higher rates for electricity and water beginning July 1, 2026, as the Commission seeks to balance consumer interests with the sustainability of utility services.
